The End Of The World As We Know It

Your disaster preparations would increase dramatically as soon as you have to prepare beyond just a few days. They would include lots more of the same and would need more resource to move it.  A utility trailer would come in handy, moving up to the Teardrop or full size RV trailer or motor home.  A hitch for the fold-up utility trailer or Teardrop would be needed if you don’t already have one installed.  The Teardrops can be quite elaborate inside and out.  Either of these could be pulled by smaller vehicles, including specialty trailers made to be pulled by motorcycles.  The Teardrops are called Turtles in Europe.  You could make your own if you’re mechanically inclined.  The RV trailers come in many sizes and would need more horsepower.

Depending on your situation, like an impending fire, storage facilities in a nearby town might be a good place to put expensive items.  Anything not nailed down might be stolen before you get back, if there is a “back”.  There may be a business in your or a neighboring city that rents freezer storage space.  If you have lots of meat from hunting or ranching, or going in on quarters, you can move it while you have time.  A couple days of moving things out and a couple more moving them back is way easier than re-buying it all.

A room for rent or efficiency might be in store for a while.

If the problem is more widespread, you may not have a definite “go to” place nearby, requiring more ingenuity and adaptability.  You probably won’t have employment.  Welcome to the humble life.  It will certainly be different.  Culture shock will ensue.  If you haven’t done this before, hang in there : )

  1. Hmmm…very good to find out, there were with no a doubt several issues that I had not idea of before.
